Leonardo DiCaprio developing scripted drama The Right Stuff

July 27, 2017 by Samuel Brace

National Geographic is developing a scripted television drama with Leonardo DiCaprio called The Right Stuff.

The series will serve as an adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s book of the same name with DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson serving as Executive Producers.

The project will be written by Will Staples and is part of the new scripted development deal between DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions and National Geographic in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television.

The 1979 book revolves around the US fighter pilot who tested the early rockets and aircraft that would become the foundation of the American space programme. The book has already been adapted into a 1983 movie.

“Having already had a rich relationship with Leonardo, Jennifer and their production company Appian Way on Before the Flood, I’m excited to work with them in a scripted capacity,” said Courteney Monroe, the CEO of National Geographic Global Networks.

“With The Right Stuff, we’re looking at moment in time where the everyday life, the trials and tribulations, of these men was scrutinized in the public. The story gives a peek into the minds and goals of these astronauts seeking exploration and adventure during the space race of the ’50s, making it the perfect story for National Geographic to tell.”
