HBO confirms Big Little Lies season 2 is in early development

July 27, 2017 by Samuel Brace

HBO have confirmed that season two of Big Little Lies is in fact in early development.

There has been some confusion in recent months as to the status of the drama Big Little Lies, starring Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. Some are saying that there’s a chance it could continue, others are saying that the story is complete, and season one was a finite offering.

But now, at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, HBO’s programming president, Casey Bloys, has confirmed that he has asked author Liane Moriarty to “take a crack” at breaking a story for the show’s second season, adding, “I’ll be very curious to see what she comes up with.”

Director Jean-Marc Vallée has said that there is no way the show continues, but Bloys seems to think that he can be convinced if the material is good enough.

“I know [Jean-Marc] said that… but Nicole and Reese can be very persuasive,” he said, laughing. “First we have to see the material and see if it’s worth everyone’s time. And if it is, [we’ll have a] conversation about directors.”
