After getting off to a rocky start with this year’s The Mummy, Universal Pictures has decided to postpone production on the next entry in its Dark Universe, announcing that filming on Bride of Frankenstein has been pushed back in order to focus on the screenplay.
“After thoughtful consideration, Universal Pictures and director Bill Condon have decided to postpone Bride of Frankenstein,” reads the official statement from Universal. “None of us want to move too quickly to meet a release date when we know this special movie needs more time to come together. Bill is a director whose enormous talent has been proven time and again, and we all look forward to continuing to work on this film together.”
Condon had been working on pre-production on the movie in London, expecting to begin shooting this February. According to Deadline, both Javier Bardem and Angelina Jolie – who are up for the roles of the Monster and his Bride – are said to be waiting on the script before making their involvement official, although The Wrap is claiming that Condon is also eyeing Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot should Jolie opt against the project.
Bride of Frankenstein was originally set for release on February 14th 2019, but it’s now unclear when – and indeed if – we might see the movie.
