Jamie Foxx to play Black Panthers leader in Signal Hill

October 29, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Jamie Foxx is set to reunite with Ray director Taylor Hackford on Signal Hill, the upcoming drama revolving around the 1981 Signal Hill police brutality case.

The film will see Foxx taking on the role of Elmer ‘Geronimo’ Pratt, the Black Panther party leader who was sent to prison for 27 years for a murder he said he didn’t commit. Foxx will be joined in the cast by Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Civil War) as attorney Johnnie Cochran, who helped Pratt overturn his conviction and settle a false imprisonment suit for $4.5 million. Elizabeth Banks (Power Rangers) portrays Mary Neiswender, a reporter for the Long Beach Press-Telegram, who investigated the cover up surrounding the death of college football star Ron Settles, who was arrested for speeding and subsequently found hanged in his cell.

Signal Hill has been scripted by David McMillan, with Hackford and Mackie serving as producers alongside Jason Spire, Robbie Brenner, Kevin McKeon and Jeff Kwatinetz.

Foxx was last seen in Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, and has recently wrapped filming on Robin Hood: Origins, where he stars alongside Taron Egerton, Eve Hewson, Jamie Dornan and Ben Mendelsohn. He has also written and directed the comedy All-Star Weekend, which features a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Piven and Eva Longoria.
