Stranger Things season 2 draws huge viewing figures

November 3, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

Now that Nielsen are starting to release viewing statistics for online streaming services, we might start to get an idea of just how successful the likes of Netflix and Amazon have been in reinventing the consumption of our favourite television shows. Well, the former of those streaming giants will be pleased with the results for Stranger Things 2, which only launched this week, but has already amassed 15.8m views for the season premiere.

Here’s a breakdown of the individual episode views so far. On average, Stranger Things 2 has averaged 8.8m viewers per episode, but this will only continue to rise as the non-binge watchers work their way through the show. 361,000 people watched all nine episodes of the season within the first 24 hours of its release.

“Chapter One” averaged 15.8 million viewers and 11 million people 18-49
“Chapter Two” averaged 13.7 million viewers and 9.6 million people 18-49
“Chapter Three” averaged 11.6 million viewers and 8.1 million viewers 18-49
“Chapter Four” averaged 9.3 million viewers and 6.6 million viewers 18-49
“Chapter Five” averaged 8 million viewers and 5.6 million viewers 18-49
“Chapter Six” averaged 6.4 million viewers and 4.5 million viewers 18-49
“Chapter Seven” averaged 5.3 million viewers and 3.7 million viewers 18-49
“Chapter Eight” averaged 4.9 million viewers and 3.4 million viewers 18-49
“Chapter Nine” averaged 4.6 million viewers and 3.2 million viewers 18-49

How accurate these figures actually are will be disputed by Netflix, who at the time of Nielsen’s announcement questioned their validity, but either way, it’s the equivalent of blockbuster television.
