Dan Harmon has been having talks about a Community movie

November 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Community managed to tick off the first part of its slogan “six seasons and a movie”, reaching its sixth season before coming to an end in 2015, and speaking to The Wrap, creator Dan Harmon has revealed that he still has plans for a feature film, and has been speaking to the Russo brothers (Avengers: Infinity War) and Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) about that very possibility.

“I keep having conversations with the kinds of people that could make it happen,” said Harmon. “The Russo brothers moved from ‘Community to becoming industry shapers. So did one of our most popular directors, Justin Lin, who directed the first paintball episode. [Lin] in particular has always been jazzed about the idea of doing a Community movie. I hope I’m not talking out of school by saying that. I’ll get together with him every once in a while, or we’ll have dinner, and we’re talking – we keep trying to figure out how to do this. Those are the kinds of guys, the Russos, plus Justin, plus a humble little me – maybe there is a way to secure the money and the momentum to make something happen. But fingers crossed – don’t want to jinx it.”

Harmon served as showrunner on Community for its first three seasons, before being replaced for the fourth season, and returning for the fifth. NBC cancelled the show at the end of season five, with Yahoo! then coming in to order a sixth season. Yahoo! was keen to renew the show for a seventh season, and also offered Harmon the opportunity to make a Community movie, an opportunity he passed on, statingt that: “I told Yahoo!, ‘I can’t think about writing a movie until I miss Community.'”
