Guillermo del Toro likely won’t be returning to Justice League Dark or the superhero genre anytime soon

December 5, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Director Guillermo del Toro has commented on the possibility that he might return to Justice League Dark and talked about being involved with future superhero movies.

The chances of the beloved director being involved once again with Justice League Dark after his 2015 departure from the project seem unlikely. This is at least the impression del Toro gave in a recent Reddit AMA.

“I am concentrating on other projects right now.” del Toro explained. “Next one could be a big one or a small one. I don’t know. That’s why I am taking time off. To think and ponder.”

And on if he might direct something else in the superhero genre, del Toro said:

“When we did [Hellboy’s] films (as when Blade II happened) I was doing it because these movies were scarce and – I thought – a rarity.” del Toro explained. “Today it’s different. I am different too. I think my interest lie elsewhere. I still like the big arena films because I essay a great deal of things that come in handy on the smaller films, and it’s fun to take alternative vacations from each mode of directing.”

While Justice League Dark’s future is unclear, Justice League itself is still currently in cinemas.
