Matt Shakman direct The Phantom Tollbooth

December 10, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Last August it was announced that TriStar Pictures was developing an adaptation of the classic children’s book The Phantom Tollbooth, and now Deadline is reporting that the studio has enlisted Matt Shakman (Game of Thrones, Fargo) to direct the project.

Based on the 1961 book by writer Norton Juster and illustrator Jules Feiffer, The Phantom Tollbooth “tells the story of a bored young boy named Milo who unexpectedly received a magic tollbooth one afternoon and, having nothing better to do, decides to drive through it in his toy car. The tollbooth transports him to a land called the Kingdom of Wisdom, where he acquires two faithful companions, has many adventures, and goes on a quest to rescue the princesses of the kingdom from a castle in the air.”

The Phantom Tollbooth has been scripted by Michael Vukadinovic (Rememory) and Phil Johnston (Wreck-It Ralph 2), and has Donald De Line and Ed McDonnell producing.
