Leonardo DiCaprio confirmed for Quentin Tarantino’s next movie

January 13, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio has become the first addition to Quentin Tarantino’s next film, which will take place in Los Angeles in 1969 and is set to the backdrop of the Manson Family murders.

The film will mark DiCaprio’s first on-screen role since his Oscar-winning turn in The Revenant. The star – who previously worked with Tarantino on Django Unchained – is set to play an aging actor, presumably the one referred to in the brief plot description:

“Set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, the film focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and his looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick—who’s also his stunt double—is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story.”

Tarantino has also reportedly offered the role of Sharon Tate, a victim of the Manson Family, to Margot Robbie, while Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lawrence and Samuel L. Jackson have also been linked to roles.

The film, which is going by the working title of #9, is set for release on August 9th 2019, the 50th anniversary of the Tate murders on August 9th 1969.
