Scoot McNairy joins True Detective season 3

January 18, 2018 by Ricky Church

The third season of True Detective continues to build up its cast as Godless actor Scoot McNairy has signed on to appear in HBO’s anthology series, reports Deadline. He’ll star opposite Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Carmen Ejogo (Selma) and Stephen Dorff (Blade).

McNairy will portray Tom, a father who suffers a terrible loss that ties his fate to that of two state police detectives over 10 years. Ali will portray State Investigator Wayne Hays and Dorff his partner Roland West. The third season will focus on a crime in the heart of the Ozarks, with the mystery playing out in three separate time periods.

McNairy is coming off the final season of AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire and recently completed The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter with Josh Brolin and Danny McBride.

Series creator and producer Nic Pizzolatto is returning for the third season. He is the third season’s sole writer, though he co-wrote the fourth episode with David Milch. Pizzolatto will also make his directorial debut in the season with Jeremy Saulnier directing most of the season.

Production on True Detective season three is expected to get underway soon, with the show slated to air on HBO in 2019.
