Gwendoline Christie is scared Phasma might not return for Star Wars: Episode IX

January 30, 2018 by Samuel Brace

The actress behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Captain Phasma, Gwendoline Christie, really wants the character to return for Episode IX.

With The Last Jedi now in the rear view mirror, the focus of our Star Wars attention is starting to turn to the likes of Solo: A Star Wars Story and the final episode in the sequel trilogy.

One character who isn’t guaranteed a return in J.J. Abram’s Episode IX, however, is Christie’s chrome First Order villain Phasma. Phasma has appeared in both sequel episodes so far but seemed to meet her doom in The Last Jedi.

Christie herself really wants the character to return and spoke to The Times (via Screen Rant) about how much passion she has developed for Phasma in response to the question if she will be coming back for Episode IX:

“In truth, I don’t know. And that scares and upsets me because I really want to see this character explored. I’m actually very invested in the character now. And that’s genuine. That’s not just chat. It has opened up a chain of stories and events in my mind about who Phasma is.”

Phasma certainly is interesting, and while details have emerged about the character in other mediums, there are certainly many that would like to see the character developed slightly further on the big screen.
