Michelle MacLaren to direct Chris Pratt in Cowboy Ninja Viking

February 2, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in 2014 it was announced that Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt has signed on for another comic book movie role in an adaptation of Image’s Cowboy Ninja Viking, and now the project has found a director.

According to THR, Michelle MacLaren has signed on to helm the Universal Pictures production, having beat out the likes of Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda) for the job. MacLaren, who was originally attached to direct Wonder Woman before Patty Jenkins, has worked extensively on the small screen, directing episodes of shows such as Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, The Leftovers, Westworld, Better Call Saul, The Deuce and Modern Family.

Cowboy Ninja Viking is based on the comic book by A.J. Lieberman and Riley Rossmo, with Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II) writing the most recent draft of a script originally penned by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool). The series follows a counter-intelligence unit which uses multiple personality disorder patients to create ‘Triplets’, agents possessing three distinct personalities. When the Triplets turn rogue, it is down to the deadliest Triplet – Cowboy Ninja Viking – to take them down.

Cowboy Ninja Viking is set for release on June 28th, 2019.
