Lucasfilm says more Star Wars Legends characters joining official canon soon

February 3, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in 2014, following its acquisition by The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm announced that it was erasing the Star Wars Expanded Universe, rebranding the line as ‘Legends’ and cutting it from the official Star Wars canon, which consisted at that point of the original six movies and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series.

While The Clone Wars had introduced several EU elements into the official canon, such as Darth Bane and the Black Sun, the subsequent movies, shows, books, and comics have frequently revisited characters, planets and vehicles to bring them into the ‘Disney Star Wars Canon’, including the likes of Grand Admiral Thrawn, The Inquisitors, the New Republic… heck, even Chewbacca’s wife Malla from the Star Wars: Holiday Special (io9 does a good job of summarising them all here).

Well, according to Lucasfilm Story Group’s Leland Chee, we can expect to see many more Legends character popping up in official canon, with Chee stating on Twitter that: “You wouldn’t believe some of the Legends characters that will be cropping up in various media in the coming months. Hey, if Tag & Bink can show up, ANYthing is possible.”

The Tag & Bink that Chee refers to are characters from the Dark Horse comic book series Star Wars: Tag & Bink, who have been confirmed as appearing in May’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.
