EA provides an update on future Star Wars video game plans

February 3, 2018 by Gary Collinson

During Electronic Arts’ latest investor earnings call, EA executives Blake Jorgensen and Andrew Wilson have been chatting about the publisher’s Star Wars video game license, giving us an indication as to its future plans.

“[We’ve] not announced our products for fiscal year 2020 yet,” said Jorgensen, before revealing that Respawn’s as-yet-unrevealed action title will “most likely drop in fiscal 2020 versus another Star Wars Battlefront“.

As for the Battlefront series, Wilson admitted that sales of Star Wars Battlefront II had been “lower than expected” and that the publisher “hasn’t decided timing for another Battlefront yet.” Nevertheless, he went on to reassure investors and fans that the company remains committed to Battlefront II:

“The team is working diligently on update and extra content for the live services around Star Wars Battlefront 2. As we grow this game with more content, we believe that Star Wars fans will continue to have fantastic experiences over the long life of Battlefront 2. Going forward, we believe that live services that include optional digital monetization, when done right, provide a very important element of choice that can extend and enhance the experience in our games. We’re committed to continually working with our players to deliver the right experience in each of our games and live services.”

So with EA’s fiscal year running for 2020 running between April 2019 and March 2020, it looks like we’re going to have a little wait before we get a new Star Wars title from EA, meaning that fans will have to make do with Battlefront II for the next eighteen months or so.
