Solo: A Star Wars Story will bring the original Star Destroyer design into canon

February 20, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Merchandise for Solo: A Star Wars Story has revealed that the original design for the Imperial Star Destroyer will become canon.

The marketing push for Solo is now in full force with new information about characters, locations, and plot elements coming our way on a regular basis via comments from cast and crew as well as official merchandise.

Mattel, as revealed at New York Toy Fair, is making products based off the upcoming ships from the film as a part of their Hot Wheels line of Star Wars toys. Interestingly, this will include a design from Colin Cantwell’s original designs for the Imperial Star Destroyer.

The new ship, known as the Arrestor Cruiser, was initially pitched to George Lucas as the design of the original destroyer and Cantwell has now released the idea that he gave to Lucas via Instagram.
