Lupita Nyong’o to play Trevor Noah’s mother in Born a Crime

February 24, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Deadline is reporting that Black Panther star Lupita Nyong’o has signed on to star in Born a Crime, the upcoming film adaptation of The Daily Show host Trevor Noah’s autobiography Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood.

Oscar-winner Nyong’o will play Noah’s mother Patricia, who served as an important figure to her son during his formative years. Jailed and fined by the South African government for being in an interracial relationship with Noah’s father at the time of his birth in 1984, Patricia later survived being shot in the head by Noah’s stepfather in 2009.

Nyong’o – who will next be seen in Little Monsters, and could potentially reprise her Black Panther role as Nakia in May’s Avengers: Infinity War – will also serve as a producer on the project alongside Noah and Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin of Mainstay Entertainment.
