Doug Liman’s Chaos Walking to undergo major reshoots, release date likely to be pushed back

April 9, 2018 by Gary Collinson

We may potentially have a little longer to wait before we get to see Doug Liman’s adaptation of Patrick Ness’ novel Chaos Walking, with THR reporting that the movie is set to undergo major reshoots later this year, which could see its release date pushed back.

According to the site, two to three weeks of additional photography are being scheduled in for later in the year, possibly beginning in December and running through to January.

Filming originally wrapped this past November, but with stars Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley in high demand and gearing up to shoot Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 and Star Wars: Episode IX respectively, they are unavailable until the end of the year.

Given that Lionsgate has the film scheduled for March 1st, 2019, it’s likely that these reshoots will force the studio to move back the release of the sci-fi thriller, although that is yet to be confirmed.

Chaos Walking follows Tom Hewitt (Holland), who lives on the distant planet of New World—a new hope for humanity until struck by “The Noise,” a virus which inflicts immersive visions of ones’ every thought. The cacophony drives many mad until Todd makes a hidden, silent discovery: there is a girl named Viola (Ridley), who may be the key to unlocking New World’s many layered secrets. Together, the two unlikely companions are forced on a white-knuckle adventure into an unexplored planet – trying to escape and hide in an environment where all thought is heard, all movement seen –as they both discover the truth about the lives they left behind and the spectacular world they’ve learned to call home.

Featuring in the cast of the film alongside Holland and Ridley are Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Demian Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy), Cynthia Erivo (Widows), David Oyelowo (Selma) and Nick Jonas (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle).
