Playstation president speaks out against harassment in gaming

November 24, 2014 by Tom Powter

Sony Computer Entertainment America’s president Shawn Layden has spoken out against harassment in gaming.

Speaking to Gamesbeat, Layden said: “I’ll be very clear about my view of harassment or bullying: It’s completely unacceptable. Completely unacceptable. I will not be vague or equivocate about that.”

Speaking about women in the industry, a subject that has been highly prevalent over the recent months after the internet-wide GamerGate scandal, Layden expressed his view that Sony were still “best in class” in regards to women in the industry, pointing out that Shannon Studstill is in charge of Sony Santa Monica, the team behind the massive God of War series. “Women executives up and down the [organization chart], and in the production teams,” Layden said. “We make our statement just by executing to that plan.”

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have all spoken out against harassment in the industry through a statement released by the Entertainment Software Association, saying: “There is no place in the video game community–or our society–for personal attacks and threats.”
