Roberto Orci not writing Star Trek 3, reminds fans why he makes movies and we don’t

December 26, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Originally published December 26, 2014. Updated April 15, 2018.

With Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) now signed on to direct Star Trek 3 as Roberto Orci’s replacement, it had been reported that Orci would remain involved in the project in a writing and producing capacity. However, Orci has now taken to the message boards on TrekMovie to clarify that he is not involved with the script, stating that: “I’m producing. Nothing more or less.”

Meanwhile, the outspoken Orci couldn’t resist jumping to the defence of the rebooted series’ alternate time-line by commenting: “Stop blaming [Bad Robot]. It was my idea so that you would not know what was gonna happen next. Nothing more or less. I stand behind it. And it, again, is the reason why I make movies and you don’t.”

So there. Orci knows best. It’s a shame he’s not writing and directing, as surely we’d be in for the greatest Star Trek movie of all time…

Star Trek 3 is set for release on July 8th, 2016.
