Lionsgate exploring “prequel and sequel possibilities” for The Hunger Games

February 7, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday, Lionsgate announced that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is set for an IMAX release, describing it in the official press release as “the ‘next‘ chapter in the Hunger Games franchise, as opposed to the ‘final‘ chapter.

There has been speculation that Lionsgate would look to extend The Hunger Games beyond its trilogy of source novels, given that it has proven to be box office gold for the studio, and sure enough, CEO Jon Feltheimer has confirmed that this is the case, revealing to Deadline that he’s “actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities.”

The first three movies in the Hunger Games franchise have grossed $2.27 billion around the world, and will likely crack the $3 billion mark when Mockingjay – Part 2 arrives in November.
