Space Invaders movie finds its screenwriter

February 16, 2015 by Gavin Logan

Yes you have read that correctly. After a couple of years in limbo the Space Invaders movie adaptation is actually moving forward now that it has found a writer.

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has officially hired Daniel Kunka to pen the movie version of the mega-popular classic arcade game, whose only produced feature film to date is 12 Rounds starring WWE superstar John Cena and Aidan Gillen.

Kunka made his name when he appeared on the Black List after adapting a 52 page spec script called Yellowstone Falls into a fully fledged feature script about wolves battling zombies, so turning the much loved yet simplistic video game into a live action movie shouldn’t be a problem right?

No production details have been released yet and no director has been attached but Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, Lone Survivor) is set to produce. Kunka is currently hard at work adapting the novel Patriotic Fire: Andrew Jackson & Jean Lafitte at the Battle of New Orleans by Forrest Gump novelist Winston Groom so it’s likely he’ll begin work on Space Invaders after that.
