George R.R. Martin on Game of Thrones season 5: “People are going to die who don’t die in the books”

February 16, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Readers of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books have so far had a pretty good idea of what to expect when it comes to character deaths on HBO’s acclaimed fantasy series Game of Thrones.

However, that started to change last season with a surprise death in the tenth episode… and according to George R.R. Martin, it’s only going to get worse in season 5.

“People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy,” Martin told Showbiz411 at the WGA Awards. “Everybody better be on their toes. [Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] are even bloodier than I am.”

Sounds particularly ominous…

Game of Thrones season 5 gets underway on April 12th. Follow all of our coverage here.
