Robin Hood: Origins script being shopped around by Knights of the Round Table writer

February 27, 2015 by admin

Had enough of origin stories? Well, the man behind Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur movie Knights of the Round Table is shopping around his new script Robin Hood: Origins.

According to Deadline, Joby Harold has written a “dark and gritty” take on the infamous character. At present no studios are interested in developing it, but Sony are planning on a Robin Hood movie and could be interested in using Harold’s script as its basis. The Sony plan is to create a shared universe type franchise based on Robin Hood characters, similar to Marvel’s superhero movies.

Disney are also working on a Robin Hood movie entitled Nottingham & Hood, but its unlikely they will be interested in Harold’s script as their vision is to be more like Pirates of the Caribbean.

Robin Hood last graced the silver screen in Ridley Scott’s 2010 effort starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, which was a moderate success with $322 million worldwide, but only $100 million of that was domestic.

Joby Harold’s Knights of the Round Table will be directed by Guy Ritchie (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) and will feature Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) as King Arthur and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey (I Origins) as Guinevere. Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Eric Bana (Hulk) and Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy) are all rumoured to have roles in the movie.
