Female-led Jump Street movie possibly in the works at Sony

April 29, 2015 by Gavin Logan

Ghostbusters isn’t the only comedy blockbuster getting an all female-led spin-off. According to the Tracking Board Sony have plans to develop a 21 Jump Street movie with female leads.

Little details are known as the project is still very much in its infancy at the moment but apparently the writers behind Comedy Central’s Broad City Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs have been approached about penning the screenplay. It’s said that Sony want the female version to contain the same kind of spoof humour as the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill big screen reboot which was directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (LEGO Movie)

Much like the upcoming Paul Feig directed Ghostbusters rehash, we will assume that Sony will keep the plot details fairly similar to the original with the hope that adding females to the lead roles might bring something new to the movie. We’re not sure yet whether the female version will co-exist with the previous two movies or if it will bleed into the planned third movie which is currently in pre-production. There’s still the bizarre rumour that a Jump Street/Men In Black crossover might happen soon and at this point we wouldn’t be surprised if a female-led MIB movie is being considered too.

Anyone want to start taking bets on which female actors will be linked first?
