Aardman producing animated holiday special Robin Robin for Netflix

November 24, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Aardman Animations, the studio behind beloved creations such as Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, is producing a new animated holiday special short entitled Robin Robin, which is set to air on streaming service Netflix in time for Christmas 2020.

As per Variety, Robin Robin will tell the story of “a bird raised by a family of mice. As she grows up, her differences become more apparent. Robin sets off on a daring heist to prove to her family that she can be a really good mouse.”

Dan Ojari (Slow Derek) and Mikey Please (The Eagleman Stag) are directing the 30-minute special, which is currently in production and features characters created from natural materials, as opposed to Aardman’s signature Plasticine.

“When Mikey and Dan first pitched us the concept for ‘Robin Robin,’ we knew instantly that this was a rare and special project that we had to make together,” said executive producer Sarah Cox. “It’s a beautifully crafted stop-frame musical that immediately feels classic whilst being groundbreaking and modern.”

“Together with Aardman, we’re thrilled to celebrate and introduce new generations of families around the world to the craft of stop motion animation through Robin Robin, a magical tale that warms the heart and can be enjoyed by the whole family,” added Netflix’s Alexi Wheeler.

Look for Robin Robin on Netflix at Christmas 2020.
