Allison Janney, Annie Murphy and Ben Platt in talks for comedy The People We Hate at the Wedding

March 5, 2021 by Ricky Church

Deadline reports Allison Janney (Mom), Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek) and Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen) are in talks to star in the comedy The People We Hate at the Wedding. Directed by Claire Scanlon (Set It Up), the film is described as “a next-generation Four Weddings and a Funeral.”

The film is an adaptation of Grant Ginder’s novel with the script adaptation written by Bob’s Burgers Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Wendy Molyneux. The People We Hate at the Wedding follows “a dysfunctional family that can’t seem to get along and get it together reluctantly reunites for a family wedding. As their many skeletons are wrenched from the closet, it turns out to be just what this singular family needs to reconnect.”

FilmNation will produce the film with the UTA Independent Film Group having introduced it at the virtual Film Market a few days ago.
