Amazon to exclusively stream Macbeth starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard

August 3, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Amazon has acquired the exclusive rights to show Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth after its theatrical release in the USA this December.

The Weinstein Company has signed a deal with Amazon Studios to bring the new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play, which stars Michael Fassbender (Frank) and Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night) and is being distributed through the Weinsteins’ Radius-TWC.

Amazon will stream the film to Prime Instant Video subscribers exclusively around two-to-three months after the film has debuted in US cinemas. The company will still continue with its theatrical distribution plan, with the film set to be one of those in the mix for honours come awards season.

Macbeth is released on October 2nd in the UK, with the US release set for Christmas 2015.
