Amy Adams will team up with director Taika Waititi for the new film Klara and the Sun as Deadline reports that Adams has joined Jenna Ortega in the Waititi-helmed project for Sony’s 3000 Pictures.
Klara and the Sun tells the story of Klara (Ortega), an Artificial Friend designed to prevent loneliness. Klara is purchased by a mother (Adams) and a bright teen named Josie, who adores her new robot companion but suffers from a mysterious illness. This is the story of Klara’s quest to save Josie and those who love her from heartbreak and how, in the process, Klara learns the power of human love.
The film is based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s New York Times bestselling novel, and will see Ishiguro serving as executive producer. The Ishiguro novel was published in March 2021 and saw a relatively successful launch; Klara and the Sun debuted on the New York Times Best Sellers Hardcover Fiction List at No. 3 and the Indie Best Sellers Hardcover Fiction List at No. 1.
There’s currently no production timeline for Klara and the Sun, but the project marks the first time collaboration between all three talents involved, as Adams and Ortega have yet to work together or with filmmaker Taika Waititi.
