Animated Ghostbusters hires Fletcher Moules as director

March 9, 2016 by Ricky Church

Hot on the heels of the recently released trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters comes news from The Hollywood Reporter that Sony Pictures Animation has hired a director for its animated Ghostbusters movie, a project that was announced last fall as they seek to expand the Ghostbusters franchise.

Fletcher Moules has been given the job to bust some animated ghosts. He’s been the director for the various commercials for the Clash of Clans game. Lately many of these commercials have also added real A-list stars such as Liam Neeson and Christoph Waltz in them, adding some extra comedy to the promos.

All this is to add to a possible cinematic universe between Ghostbusters films, though how an animated film will connect, if at all, to the upcoming Ghostbusters or rumoured Russo Brothers film led by Channing Tatum is unknown at this point. Many people are already skeptical of Ghostbusters (as you can see in our reaction to the trailer), much less how a cinematic universe with Ghostbusters would even work. The film will come under original Ghostbusters star and director Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman’s Ghost Corps banner, the studio branch that is heading this potential shared universe.

Ghostbusters is no stranger to the animated format. Previously the franchise has had the animated series The Real Ghostbusters, running from 1986 – 1991, which followed the exploits of the original characters, tying loosely to both of the films. In 1997 a sequel series was developed called Extreme Ghostbusters, following a new, younger generation of Ghostbusters led by Egon Spengler. It lasted one season consisting of 40 episodes and at one point featured the Extreme Ghostbusters teaming up with the original ones, with the same voice cast from the series.
