Anthony Mackie and Kian Lawley join The Hate U Give

Deadline is reporting that Anthony Mackie (Detroit) and Kian Lawley (Before I Fall) have signed on to the cast of The Hate U Give, a new drama from Fox 2000, which is based upon Angela Thomas’ bestselling novel.

The film is being directed by George Tillman Jr. (Men Of Honor), and stars Amandla Stenberg stars as Starr Carter, who is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer.

Also featuring in the cast of The Hate U Give are Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, Issa Rae, Sabrina Carpenter, Algee Smith, Lamar Johnson, and Common. Filming is now underway in Atlanta.
