Apple TV+ renews Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, with multiple MonsterVerse spin-off series planned

April 12, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Coming on the heels of the success of the first season, as well as the recent big screen feature Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Apple TV+ has announced that it has renewed Legendary Entertainment’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for a second season, while plans are also afoot for multiple addition series set within the MonsterVerse.

“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds and imaginations of audiences around the world, led by the brilliance of Chris, Matt, Kurt, Wyatt and the incredibly gifted talented cast and creative team,” said Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+. “We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise, as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse.”

Taking place within the shared universe of Warner Bros. and Legendary’s Godzilla and King Kong movies, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters spans three generations and explores the buried secrets behind the mysterious Monarch organisation and their encounters with Godzilla and various other Titans.

Created by showrunners Chris Black and Matt Fraction, the first season of Monarch featured a cast that included Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, John Goodman, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski. Aside from the return of the showrunners and fellow EPs, further details on the second season plans – and the as-yet-unrevealed additional series – are being kept under wraps at present.
