Armie Hammer exits Shotgun Wedding amid cannibal sexting controversy

January 14, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Call Me By Your Name and Rebecca star Armie Hammer has departed the upcoming Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy adventure Shotgun Wedding amid controversy over leaked Instagram messages allegedly written by the actor and featuring graphic sexual fantasies including cannibalism.

“I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” said Hammer in a statement released to Variety. “Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”

“Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision,” added a representative from the production.

According to Deadline, Hammer has also left the upcoming Sam Esmail-produced series Gaslit, although his departure came prior to the leaked Instagram DMs, which allegedly show the actor describing himself as ““100% a cannibal” and expressing his desire to drink blood and cut off someone’s toe so he could keep it with him in his pocket.
