Arnold Schwarzenegger teases possible sequel to The Running Man

November 17, 2014 by Gavin Logan

It was bound to happen sooner or later and with all the remakes/reboots of classic 80’s action movies in recent years The Running Man seemed ripe for the picking. At his recent Q&A session in London, Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke about some of his upcoming projects which feature a host of sequels and one that he hinted at was The Running Man – the story of a wrongly convicted man who is forced to survive a public execution in a brutal gauntlet-style game show.

Arnie stated, “There’s rumblings of a new Running Man movie so it’s a great honour to be asked back.”

Although he didn’t divulge any other details, Arnie’s words seem to suggest that he has already been asked to return rather than him just throwing it out there and hoping for something to happen. It’s also unclear as to whether a new proposed Running Man movie would be a direct sequel or a remake of sorts. The original movie was based on the book by Stephen King penned as Richard Bachman.

Arnie also spoke about some of his other movies coming out in the next few years including his return to the Conan franchise saying that it’s “really wild” to be back. He mentioned Triplets – the sequel to the 1988 comedy Twins co-starring Danny DeVito – and claimed to have already “read the first draft”.

Schwarzenegger will of course return to one of his biggest and best franchise’s next July in Terminator: Genisys which will co-star Jai Courtney (Divergent), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Matt Smith (Dr Who) and Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).
