Atypcal renewed for season 2 by Netflix

September 15, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Atypical has been renewed for a second season by Netflix.

The streaming platform will be giving the show a second season of 10 episodes, a slight bump up from the eight that comprised the first season.

Atypical comes from Sony Pictures and is a coming-of-age story revolving around Sam, an 18 year old on the autistic spectrum. The series follows Sam on his search for love and independence.

Atypical was created by Robia Rashid who also writes and executive produces the show along with director Seth Gordon.

The series stars Keir Gilchrist as Sam, and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Sam’s mother, Elsa, whose own life is changing as her son gains his independence. Michael Rapaport portrays Sam’s father, Doug, who hopes to better understand and connect with his son.

The show aims at a realistic portrayal of autism and has brought on Michelle Dean, who received a PhD from UCLA and worked at the UCLA Center for Autism and Research and Treatment, to help guide Atypical’s depiction of the condition.
