Ava DuVernay’s DC series Naomi finds its lead in Kaci Walfall, adds three more to cast

March 20, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Casting is underway on Naomi, The CW’s upcoming DC comic book adaptation from Ava DuVernay (Selma, When They See Us), with Deadline reporting that young actress Kaci Walfall (Army Wives, Power) has secured the title role of teen superhero Naomi McDuffie.

The potential series “follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.”

Walfall’s Naomi is described as “an effortlessly cool and confident high school student who is the adopted daughter of doting parents. Popular with all the kids in her military town, Naomi is unafraid to embrace her AP-student, comic book–loving nerdiness. After a supernatural event leads to the discovery of her powers within, Naomi pursues her hidden destiny.”

In addition to Walfall, the pilot will also star Alexander Wraith (Orange Is the New Black) as Dee, Cranston Johnson (P-Valley) as Zumbado, and newcomer Camila Moreno as Lourdes. The pilot is being written and executive produced by DuVernay along with Jill Blankenship (Arrow).
