Avatar: The Last Airbender casts Dichen Lachman and more in seasons two and three

May 22, 2025 by Ricky Church

Netflix has announced new additions to its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender along with their announcement season three has begun filming. Joining the series is Dichen Lachman (Severance), Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness), Terry Chen (Lucky Star), Lily Gao (Blue Sun Palace), Madison Hu (The Brother’s Son), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon) and Jon Jon Briones (Hadestown).

Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place in a world where people can control one of the four elements of water, earth, fire and air while one person known as the Avatar is chosen by fate to wield all the elements to protect the world. Together with his friends, the latest Avatar Aang must stop the Fire Nation in their war to conquer the world.

With the exception of Cardinal and Briones, the new cast members will be seen in season two while the former stars will enter the show in its third season. Their characters are:

  • Lachman will star as Yangchen
  • de Leon will have dual roles as Lo and Li.
  • Terry Chen will as Jeong Jeong
  • Lily Gao as Ursa
  • Madison Hu  as Fei.
  • Cardinal will play Hama
  • Jon Jon Briones will play Piandao.

The new batch of actors join fellow newcomers Chin Han (Mortal Kombat) Hoa Xuande (The Sympathizer), Justin Chien (The Brothers Sun), Amanda Zhou (Spinning Out), Crystal Yu (Good Omens), Kelemete Misipeka (Sons of Thunder), Lourdes Faberes (Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre) and Rekha Sharma (Battlestar Galactica).

Set in an Asiatic, war-torn world where certain people can ‘bend’ one of the four classical elements: water, earth, fire, or air. Aang (Gordon Cormier) is the “Avatar,” the only one capable of bending all the elements, and is destined to bring peace to the world from the Fire Nation. With his new companions Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley), Aang sets out to master the elements while being pursued by the exiled Fire Nation prince Zuko (Daniel Dae Kim), who seeks to regain his honor by capturing the Avatar.

Avatar: The Last Airbender stars Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Zuko, Elizabeth Yu as Azula, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Iroh, and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai.
