Avengers: Infinity War screenwriter says fans “have no idea what Avengers 4 is”

March 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Since it was first announced that Marvel Studios would be dropping the Part I and Part II titles from Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, fans have been speculating as to what ‘Untitled Avengers‘ may entail (the title of which is apparently deemed by Marvel to be a spoiler).

Will it continue the Infinity War storyline? Will the Avengers still be fighting Thanos? Is it New Avengers? Why are set photos apparently revealing a number of flashbacks to earlier moments in the MCU?

At this point, ahead of next month’s Infinity War, it’s all just theory and speculation really, and as co-writer Stephen McFeely has pointed out to Heroic Hollywood, these theories all seem to be wide of the mark.

“You have no idea what Avengers 4 is,” said McFeeley. “Nobody knows, and that’s what makes me particularly excited. I look all the time on the internet: people have no idea!”

Meanwhile, in the same interview, McFeely went on to discuss the split between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, echoing the comments from directors Joe and Anthony Russo earlier this week that the two films will be distinctly different, rather than a traditional two-parter:

“[Avengers 4] resolves the intrigue of Infinity War; [the movies are] clearly linked, but they almost seem to belong to two different genres. We did not want to cut a film in half and say, ‘Pay now and come back in a year for the rest!’ These are two very different stories, on a tonal and structural level.”

So, come on then Marvel fans: new theories please! What’s going on in Avengers 4?

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket, Kraglin), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Peter Dinklage and Terry Notary in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
