Beauty and the Beast screenwriter to pen Bright 2

May 11, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in January Netflix announced plans for a sequel to last year’s action sci-fi fantasy Bright, which would reteam director David Ayer with stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.

In the original report, it was said that Ayer would be taking over scripting duties from Max Landis, who penned the first movie. However, we now have word that Evan Spiliotopoulos – whose credits include Beauty and the Beast, The Huntsman: Winter’s War and Hercules – has signed on to work on the screenplay for the sequel.

Bright takes place in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies co-exist, and sees Smith and Edgerton as two cops – human and orc – who fight to protect the future of their world. Also featuring in the cast are Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Happy Anderson, Kenneth Choi, Brad William Henke, Andrea Navedo, Dawn Olivieri, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz and Jay Hernandez.

The movie was savaged by critics, with some going as far as to label it the worst movie of 2017. However, it proved a solid hit for the streaming service, pulling in 11 million views in its very first weekend, and earning an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
