Black Cat/Silver Sable rumours, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on hold, Baywatch flops and more – Daily News Roundup

May 30, 2017 by admin

SONY’S SPIDER-VERSE

With Sony pushing ahead with their Venom movie starring Tom Hardy, Splash Report have a new dubious rumour about the plot details for the Black Cat & Silver Sable outing Silver & Black. According to the site – so take this with a pinch of salt – the movie will feature, “Silver Sable [being] hired by the government to find Felicia Hardy. The Black Cat, a master hacker and thief, has apparently stolen valuable secret information. She’s hiding in the lawless and dangerous triple frontier area between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil”. The site also claims that Spider-Man will not feature or be mentioned, but the film will see the big screen debuts of Spider-Woman and Kraven the Hunter. Read more here.

WHERE DOES HE GET THOSE WONDERFUL TOYS?

He might have dabbled with lightsabers in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but John Boyega’s Finn will be wielding a blaster this time around in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Boyega took to Instagram to share an image of his new toy, which you can check out here.

GUARDIANS ON HOLD

It was announced back in April that James Gunn would return to his MCU franchise with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in Phase Four, but a new interview with his brother Sean has said the plans are on hold for the time being. “I know that James is being a little bit more patient this time around,” said Sean Gunn during an interview with Fan Fest. “Partially because some of what happens with the Guardians is dependent on what happens with them in Infinity War. And even though my brother’s a producer on Infinity War, those movies aren’t finished yet so until we kind of see where everything lands there that’s going to have some bearing on what happens with the Guardians. So it’s a little bit of a wait and see but I’m sure there are a lot of ideas already in the works.” Read more here.

IMPROVING ON THE ORIGINAL

It was also good news for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which held onto the number two spot at the domestic box office in its fourth week, as the film has now out-grossed its predecessor. Its worldwide total stands at roughly $783 million, while the first installment ended its box office run with an impressive $773 million total. BAYWATCH BOMBS

Oh dear. Although the marketing train has been pushing Baywatch hard, audiences have not reacted well to the R-rated comedy. Reviews have not been kind either (with The Rock taking to Twitter to claim critics “didn’t get it” and that it was “made for fans”), and Baywatch only earned $22 million domestically which wasn’t enough to unseat Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in its fourth week of release (but it earned more than Alien: Covenant which dropped a whopping 71% week-on-week). Paramount have plans for Baywatch 2, so the studio will be hoping for a strong international presence to save this sinking ship. Read more here.

PIRATES SPOILERS

Geoffrey Rush has been talking about certain spoilers about his character in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales, which you can read here.

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK

Following the announcement last week that Doug Liman had become the second director to leave Justice League Dark, word around the campfire was that It director Andres Muschietti was in contention. However a new report is suggesting that Damian Szifron (Wild Tales) is also under consideration. He is also attached to direct Universal’s big screen remake of The Six Billion Dollar Man, should it ever see the light of day. ARTICLE OF THE DAY

Neil Calloway has been looking back at the failed TV pilot for The Amazon Princess with his brilliant article The Wonder Woman They Didn’t Want You To See. Read it here.
