Bob Iger reveals that Disney is already planning Star Wars movies for 2021 and beyond

September 21, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Are you sitting down? Because this one’s a real shocker…

In news that will surprise absolutely no one, Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that while the Star Wars franchise has been mapped out through to 2020 – with annual releases including Rogue One, Episode VIII, Episode IX, Han Solo and an as-yet-unrevealed Anthology film – discussions are already underway with regards to future movies from 2021.

“We have movies in development for Star Wars ’til [2020], and we started talking about what we’re going to do in 2021 and beyond,” said Iger on a conference call to Disney investors (via Slashfilm). So, [Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy] is not just making a Star Wars movie, she’s making a Star Wars universe, of sorts.”

Iger also spoke about the next release, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, calling it “an experiment of sorts” and stating that Disney never expected the movie to spark the same interest as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but: “The level of interest [in Rogue One] is as high as it was for Force Awakens. It’s really interesting in terms of Star Wars storytelling. Star Wars has only been told as a saga, and this is a moment in time … we love what we’ve seen.”

So, how do you see the Star Wars saga continuing from 2021. Will we get Episodes X–XII of the main saga, with more Anthology movies in between? What would you like to see explored in the new spinoffs?
