It looks like the upcoming movie War for the Planet of the Apes is going to be getting a prequel in the form of a comic. BOOM! Studios has announced a comic series that takes place after 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and right before War for the Planet of the Apes. The first issue of this prequel series will land just two days prior to the release of the movie, and the kind folks over at Screenrant have provided exclusive photos of two alternate covers for issue #1, which will be available July 12th:
Also included in the big reveal was a synopsis for the prequel:
“In this prequel to the upcoming blockbuster film from 20th Century Fox, San Francisco lies in ruin as the war for survival between man and ape rests on the shoulders of one solitary soul.”
War for the Planet of the Apes is set for release on July 14th. The film is directed by Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and features a cast that includes Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Judy Greer, Karin Konoval, Terry Notary, Michael Adamthwaite, Gabriel Chavarria, Max Lloyd-Jones, Sara Canning, Amiah Miller, Aleks Paunovic and Chad Rook.
