Brad Dourif retires from acting, but won’t give Chucky up just yet

April 22, 2024 by EJ Moreno

After decades of voicing the killer doll Chucky, you’d think actor Brad Dourif would call it quits.

The Academy Award-nominated actor is done with Hollywood, but he’s not turning his back on Chucky just yet. In a recent interview, it seems like Dourif is calling time on his days as an actor but looks to keep the door open for family-filled productions of Chucky.

Per an interview with JoBlo, it was heavily implied that Dourif is done with acting except for voicing his most iconic role:

“Dourif said that he’s retired from acting. The only reason he came back for the show was because of his daughter Fiona and he considers Chucky creator Don Mancini to be family. But for non-Chucky stuff, he considers himself retired.”

The career for the now-74-year-old has been quite fulfilling. Dourif debuted in Milos Forman’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and landed a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. The rest of his legendary filmography consists of hits like in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, HBO’s Deadwood, playing the Gemini Killer in The Exorcist III, and critical supporting roles in projects like Rob Zombie’s Halloween, Alien Resurrection, Dune, Blue Velvet, and Mississippi Burning.

Dourif first voiced Chucky in 1988’s Child’s Play. He’d go on to voice the role in six films, three television seasons, and countless cameos in pop culture.

We here at Flickering Myth wish Brad Dourif nothing but happiness in his retirement.
