In exactly one year from today, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reunite in their iconic roles of Rick O’Connor and Evie Hammond in the now officially titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead, more than 20 years since the pair last starred in The Mummy franchise.
The Mummy: Book of the Dead will be directed by Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a script by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan). Story details are being kept under wraps, but given the title it is safe to assume the film will revolve around the fabled Book of the Dead used to resurrect the evil Imhotep from his tomb.

Fraser and Weisz aren’t the only cast members from the franchise to return as John Hannah and Oded Fehr are reprising their roles as Evie’s brother Jonathan and the Medjai chief Ardeth Bay. One surprising return is Kevin J. O’Connor as the backstabbing Beni, who was last seen in The Mummy getting eaten alive by a horde of scarabs. New cast members include Obsession‘s Matt Johnston and Numan Acar (Young Sherlock).
Fraser and Weisz first starred in 1999’s The Mummy which has become a universally beloved fan-favourite. They returned for the sequel The Mummy Returns but though Fraser starred in the third film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Weisz did not and was replaced by Maria Bello. However, Book of the Dead is ignoring the events of the previous film and being treated as the true continuation of The Mummy Returns.
The Mummy: Book of the Dead will be released on October 15th, 2027.
