Bryan Singer to direct 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

September 17, 2015 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Bryan Singer has found his next project after X-Men: Apocalypse, with the director taking to Instagram to reveal that he’s set to helm an adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic 1870 novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

“It’s my 50th birthday (ouch), and I just put the finishing touches on the script for my next film,” states Singer, who posted a copy of the screenplay for the adaptation, which has been penned by Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney. “A story I’ve wanted to retell since childhood. I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages! An adventure very dear to my heart. Not abandoning the #xmen universe. Very excited about #xmenapocalypse and beyond.”

There have been numerous adaptations of Verne’s novel over the years, most notably Richard Fleisher’s 1954 movie, which was produced by Disney, who was also mulling over its own remake a few years ago under director David Fincher.
