Bryan Singer’s executive producer credit on Marvel’s The Gifted under review, steps down from Legion

January 5, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this week it was announced that Fox has given a renewal to its Marvel series The Gifted, with the network’s press release seemingly revealing that Bryan Singer will remain attached as an executive producer for season two, despite allegations of sexual misconduct and assault circling the filmmaker.

Well, it appears that may not be the case after all, as Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn has spoke to Deadline about the situation, playing down Singer’s involvement and revealing that his position is under review.

“As part of his deal for directing the pilot, he is an executive producer on the series,” said Thorn. “Truthfully, after he shot the pilot, he went and did a movie and had little to no involvement day-to-day in Season 1. But we take all the allegations very seriously, and we’re looking into it for Season 2. Right now we have a lot of time before it premieres, and we continue to have discussions about it.”

In addition to The Gifted, Singer also served as executive producer on Marvel Television’s other X-Men-themed series Legion, although creator and showrunner Noah Hawley has revealed that he has stepped down for the upcoming second season.

“Bryan asked to take his name off the show, so we have done that,” said Hawley. “Very early on in the conception of the show, I met him a couple of times. He was interested in directing the pilot, but once I stepped in to direct, I haven’t spoken to him since that moment. Really, he was a name on the screen.”
