Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival gearing up as Sarah Michelle Gellar teases table read

July 25, 2025 by Ricky Church

The upcoming revival of the fan-favourite Buffy the Vampire Slayer has not only gained new cast members, but has also officially begun pre-production as original series lead Sarah Michelle Gellar shared a tease of the pilot’s table read.

Gellar starred as Buffy Summers throughout the original’s seven-season run and will reprise her iconic role as fate chooses a new Slayer for this generation, which Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew) has already been cast as Nova, who is described as an introverted high school student. Gellar shared a picture of her character’s name and personalized script from the table read, complete with an action figure of Buffy joining her.

Meanwhile, several young stars are set to join Armstrong with Faly Rakotohavana (Unprisoned), Ava Jean (Law & Order: SVU) and Sarah Bock (Severance) alongside the older Daniel Di Tomasso (Dynasty) and Jack Cutmore-Scott (Frasier).

Rakotohavana will play Hugo, “a privileged, likable high-school student who is a geek.” Jean will play Larkin, a “chronic do-gooder” while Bock will be Gracie, “the ringleader for a group of church-going students.” Di Tomasso will play Abe, “Nova’s single father who is a photojournalist” and Scott as Mr. Burke, “a popular high school teacher.”

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is being developed by Academy Award winning Nomadland and Eternals director Chloé Zhao, who is helming the pilot, and has been written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Poker Face).
