Carrie Fisher’s brother says Leia’s role in Star Wars: Episode IX will “look like it was meant to be”

December 29, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Earlier this year it was announced that the late Carrie Fisher will make a posthumous appearance as General Leia Organa in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX, with her role set to be constructed through unused footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Just how effective this footage will be at delivering a fitting end to Leia’s story remains to be seen, but according to Fisher’s brother Todd Fisher, Lucasfilm does have a fair amount of material to work with – enough that the final results will feel very natural.

“There’s a lot of minutes of footage,” Fisher told Good Morning America. “I don’t mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday. We’re not allowed to talk about the details of anything. But we’re thrilled at what’s been done.”
