Cassian Andor Star Wars series will shoot next year

August 27, 2019 by Gary Collinson

As Disney prepares to bring the Star Wars saga to the realm of live-action television, Lucasfilm was on hand at the D23 Expo this past weekend to promote its upcoming shows on the Disney+ streaming service.

While the release of the first trailer for The Mandalorian and the official announcement of Ewan McGregor’s return as Obi-Wan Kenobi grabbed the headlines, the showcase did also bring one nugget of info about the as-yet-untitled Cassian Andor seres.

As revealed during the panel, filming on the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series is set to take place in London in 2020, meaning we can likely expect a 2021 premiere date for the show, which will see Diego Luna reprising his Rogue One role as the Rebel spy. It had earlier been claimed that production was eyeing an October start, although that information appears to have been false (that’s Production Weekly for you!).

Stephen Schiff (The Americans) is serving as showrunner on the Cassian Andor series, which has been created and written by Jared Bush (Moana), while Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) is said to have been in talks to direct episodes having impressed Lucasfilm with his work on The Mandalorian.
