Charlie Cox thinks playing Daredevil may have cost him young Han Solo role in the Star Wars spinoff

June 18, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Given that reports suggested Lucasfilm tested over 2500 actors before casting Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, it’s probably harder to find a young actor in Hollywood who wasn’t up for the Star Wars spinoff than one who was.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter to promote his new play Incognito, Daredevil star Charlie Cox has revealed that he auditioned (or at least he thinks he did) for the Anthology movie, but felt he blew it due to a habit he picked up portraying blind lawyer Matt Murdock in Marvel’s Netflix series.

“I had gone to an audition — one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot— and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’,” states Cox. “I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind. I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.”

While he missed out on playing Han, Cox will be back as Matt Murdock next year, as Daredevil teams up with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) for Marvel’s The Defenders. Meanwhile, the young Han Solo movie is set for release on May 25th 2018.
