Cheryl Hines feels “liberated” by her return to Curb Your Enthusiasm

October 4, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Curb Your Enthusiasm is back and actress Cheryl Hines feels “liberated” to have returned to the show.

Hines, who plays Larry David’s now ex-wife on the show, has built up a fair bit of history with the fictional Larry over the years, and the show’s return this week showed the two of them still floating in the same circles, despite Cheryl’s continued frustrations with her ex.

She isn’t alone in her anguish of course and the actress revealed that part of her wishes the two could still be together.

“I miss being married to Larry,” Hines revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, “There is a world in which I think we belong together.”

Hines also talked about what it was like returning to Curb – a show where the dialogue is largely improvised – and that the only thing that’s really changed is her.

“It’s a little liberating because I don’t have to worry about Larry — he’s going to do something stupid and it’s not my problem,” the actress said with a laugh. “They have a shared past. They have shared friends. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, you get to hang out with these guys and I get to hang out with those guys.’ That was interesting to see. You don’t have to split up the friends, but then, what does that mean?” Hines did offer us one clue at what might be coming : “Larry can be surprising.”

Curb Your Enthusiasm stars ‘Seinfeld’ co-creator Larry David as himself in an unsparing, but tongue-in-cheek depiction of his life. Shot in a vérité style and featuring celebrities playing themselves, the episodes are improvised by the actors from an outline created by David. The series also stars Cheryl Hines as Larry’s ex-wife Cheryl, Jeff Garlin as David’s manager Jeff, Susie Essman as Jeff’s wife Susie and JB Smoove as Leon.

Curb Your Enthusiasm season 9 premiered on October 1st on HBO.
